Play With People

The Beating Hearth is quite simple and based on these 3 activities.

Through these you will, with time:

KNOW what to play in whatever situation you find yourself in.

Have the CONFIDENCE to ask others to play with you and accept offers from other people to play with them (yes, it will happen!).

Andy Webster: Founder and Senior Mentor

For over 20 years, I have been teaching people how to play DADGAD accompaniment and, in the same way that my playing has gone from knowing a few chords to being able to play along intuitively with almost anything , so too have my teaching methods and abilities developed from essentially dishing out material for students to take home and wishing them all the best till the following week, to being available to them when needed and give support and mentorship in all areas including  practice, motivation, setting goals, and developing the confidence to play in front of people.

Through teaching at workshops and festivals, I have been able to  see how inspired people become when they come together to learn, but how that inspiration easily wanes when they return to normal life.  This has also been true of some people that continued with private lessons – there have always been times when finding the motivation to practice becomes incredibly difficult and there has traditionally been little support to maintain drive and discipline.  Those that tried to self teach themselves using online videos, DVDS, or method books struggled even more (and eventually tried private lessons after a while).

With all this in mind, I realised that learning Celtic music , in particular, works so much better when we are able to surround ourselves with other people that inspire us whenever we need to – and that is what the Beating Hearth offers through a combination of:

2 to 4 week self paced courses to discover all you need to know to play confidently in sessions and at gigs

Scheduled practice sessions with others that fit the available time you have so that you can remain motivated and develop excellent practice habits

Weekly “online sessions” to connect with other players and steadily work your way up to playing confidently in public

One on one mentor sessions to discuss any difficulties you are experiencing and ask questions specific to your own particular development.

Being part of a community of like minded individuals who share each other’s experiences and knowledge and support one another through challenging times.

Direct access to your mentors and other community members through instant messaging to ask questions, get help or even arrange a time to meet up.

You can be sure to enjoy all the summer has to offer while still having time to become a really good Celtic guitar player.
